Nearly 14 people were killed and more than 170 went missing after a part of a glacier burst in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Sunday. The disaster also triggered an avalanche and a deluge in the Alaknanda river system, washing away five bridges and hydroelectric stations. On this tragic event, B-Town celebs took to their social media to extend their support and express their grief.
Alia Bhatt, who is currently on an all-girls-trip in the Maldives, took to her Instagram account, sharing a story that read, “Yesterday’s news of the glacier burst and flash floods in Uttarakhand is so tragic. I pray for the safety of all those who are affected.” Check out her story below-
‘Dhadak’ actress Janhvi Kapoor also took to her Instagram expressing her concern for the people of Uttarakhand. She wrote, “Praying for everyone’s safety and protection due to the flash flood caused by a glacier burst in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.”
Urvashi Rautela, who hails from Uttarakhand, also seemed pretty disheartened over the loss of life caused by the disaster. The starlet took to her Instagram, writing, “Praying for the safety & well-being for my people of Uttarakhand. May Lord keep everyone safe from this calamity. Deeply disturbed to hear the news of flooding due to a disastrous avalanche in Joshimath area of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand.”
Bollywood’s chocolate boy Kartik Aaryan also seemed visibly upset as he posted a story that read, “Very disheartened to hear about the glacier burst in Chamoli. Praying for everyone’s safety.”
This isn’t the first time Uttarakhand got struck by a natural calamity. In 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttrakhand causing devastating floods and landslides. It was so bad that it was termed as the country’s worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami.
Our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We pray that Uttarakhand heals from this disaster soon.
