On Sunday, August 28, Neeraj Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win the gold medal in the Javelin throw final event in Budapest. He launched his javelin 88.17 meters on his second try in the finals, giving him the highest score in the event.

In his second effort, Neeraj made his best throw of 88.17 meters and managed to maintain his lead till the very finish. Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the Commonwealth Games champion, took silver with a throw of 87.82 meters, while Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic took bronze with a throw of 86.67 meters. Kishore Jena of India finished fifth (best of 84.77 m), while DP Manu of India finished sixth (best of 84.14 m).
