The first trailer for Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar’s Badhaai Do was released on 25 January 2022 making it a special day for Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar’s fans. The film is being marketed as a “spiritual successor to Badhaai Ho.” This film, like the original, revolves around a social issue — homosexuality — but tells the story in a lighthearted manner. However, it looks like the half-baked cousin of Badhaai Ho. The film will be released in theatres on February 11th.
Rajkummar Rao plays Shardul Thakur, a cop in the’mahila police station,’ while Bhumi Pednekar’s Suman is a physical education teacher, a woman surviving in a man’s world, in Badhaai Do. The three-minute video begins with a basic introduction of the main characters, and we quickly learn that Shardul has been courting Suman for four years in order to marry her. However, it is their desire to get their parents off their backs, not love, that brings them together. While Sumi has a girlfriend, Shardul claims to be interested in men. Rather than coming out, they devise a scheme to marry for convenience and live as roommates while enjoying their newfound freedom. It’s a ‘atrangi wedding’ with a’satrangi setting,’ as the name suggests.
While Rajkummar and Bhumi acquit themselves admirably in their roles, seeing them play small-town residents is nothing new. In this ‘comedy of errors’ drama, the emotional quotient appears to be missing from the film, and the actors try hard to humor. There are a few amusing moments, but none of them result in laughter. There are also hints of cast and sexism, which leads to a yawn-inducing effect. Seema Pahwa, Sheeba Chadha, Chum Darang, Lovleen Mishra, Nitish Pandey, and Shashi Bhushan are among the cast members of Badhaai Do.
In November 2021, Rajkummar Rao married actor Patralekhaa in Chandigarh. They had been dating for more than a decade. In October 2021, the actor was last seen in Hum Do Hamare Do.
