Recently, lyricist and scriptwriter Puneet Sharma had posted a clip of Akshay’s old interview, wherein the actor is seen expressing his concern over people wasting food and money in the name of god. He stated that instead of donating to those dying of hunger, people are busy splurging on temples. In the past, Akshay played the role of Lord Krishna in the movie ‘OMG: Oh My God!’ During one of the interviews taken after the movie, Akshay spoke about how people mindlessly contribute to the building of large temples and idols.
In the clip Akshay says, “Why are you wasting so much milk and oil on God? Where is it written that God wants milk and coconuts? On the other hand, you are saying farmers are dying because of hunger. I go to temples and see so much of waste lying around. I believe that the best way to get God’s attention is to do good and help other people”.
This followed by his recent video on Instagram, urging people to donate for the building of Ram Mandir, has garnered him a lot of hate. Filmmaker Vinod Kapri also called out Akshay for crowdsourcing for Ram Mandir, when he himself had spoken against this some time back.
