Bollywood’s Badshah Shah Rukh Khan is known for his incredible acting and unmatched charm. However, it is a little-known that Shah Rukh is a big-time prankster. The actor once revealed how he pranked wife Gauri’s family at their wedding reception.
The country’s most beloved couple, Shah Rukh and Gauri got married in 1991. In an interview given by Shah Rukh on Farida Jalal’s chat show long ago, he divulged how he managed to prank Gauri’s ‘old-fashioned’ family. He told them that Gauri would have to wear a burkha after marriage. Apparently, Shah Rukh had overheard some of the hushed conversations between Gauri’s relatives, speculating whether she would have to convert to Islam post marriage. Upon hearing this, Shah Rukh decided to ease the situation by pranking them. He looked at Gauri and said, “Gauri, chalo, burkha pehno. Namaz padhte hai, chalo (Gauri, wear your burkha. We have to go and read the Namaz).”
The entire family was shocked when they heard this, but Shah Rukh was not done yet. He told them “Dekhiye, yeh toh burkhe mein rahegi aaj ke baad. Aaj ke baad yeh ghar se bahar nahi niklegi. Iska naam hum Ayesha kar denge (Look, from now on she will only wear burkha. She will not be allowed to step out of the house. And we’ll change her name to Ayesha).”
Shah Rukh also revealed that even though it was a prank, he truly believes that love goes beyond religion. “I had a lot of fun but the lesson in all this was that one respects religion but it should not come in the way of love,” he also added, “Now, the time has come when her family loves me more than they love her.”
