Kolkata on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood actress Zareen Khan on charges of cheating a city-based event management company way back in 2018.
An arrest warrant has also been issued against the former manager of the actress with whom the event management company coordinated in the matter, a city police official aware of the development said.
When asked about the arrest warrant, Zareen Khan said she had no clarity on the matter. “I’m sure there is no truth to this. I’m surprised too and am checking with my lawyer. Only then will I be able to give you some clarity. In the meantime, you can speak to my PR,” she said. Zareen Khan was scheduled to perform during a Durga Puja function in Kolkata in 2018. However, even as the organizers waited for her arrival, she did not show up.
According to police, one of the organisers had filed a written complaint of cheating against the Bollywood actor and her manager. An FIR was registered against both and they were asked to appear for questioning. Zareen Khan did show up for questioning back then, and claimed to be misguided by the organizers. She also alleged that she was told by the organizers that heavyweight ministers, including Bengal’s chief minister, would attend the function.
However, her team later found out that it was a small scale event in north Kolkata. She had also said that there was miscommunication over flight tickets and other accommodation, following which she had to skip the show. Zareen Khan had also filed a case against the organisers of the show at a local court, police sources said. After the investigation, a chargesheet was filed against her and her manager. While her manager appeared before court and sought bail, the actor neither asked for bail nor appeared before the court.
It is learnt that the actress ignored notices one after another for appearance at the court. Finally the court issued the arrest warrant against her.
