Prakash Jha’s latest web show ‘Aashram 3’ starring Bobby Deol and Esha Gupta releases today. In a recent interview, Jha opened up about the strong criticism that the web show has been getting over the past few years and also reacted to accusations made by religious activist groups. He expressed his views on the claims that the show defames Hinduism and asserted that for every “negative view, there’s always a bunch of people who think positively.”
Speaking to Zoom Digital, Prakash also pointed out that he believes in giving critics the freedom to voice their thoughts. The filmmaker explained that as a director it’s his duty to tell the story he strongly believes in while keeping the responsibility intact. Jha mentioned that just like fake politicians, doctors and scientists, there are also fake godmen like Nirala Baba, which is essayed by Bobby Deol in Aashram.
“There’s a very beautiful saying about dharm in India. It is not people who protect dharm, it is dharm which protects people. Aadmi dharm ko nahi bachaa sakta, darm aadmi ko bachaata hai. Toh jo log dharm ko bachaane nikalte hai, woh galat fehmi mein hain. This is what our shaswat,” Prakash was quoted as saying.
He went on to elaborate that the show is just a work of fiction and that whatever is true is religion, and if something is not true, it cannot be religion. “Toh hum jhut bataarahe hai toh dharm ho hi nahi sakta, dharm se koi lena dena hi nahi hai uska. Jo woh jhut ki rastein pe nikal gaye hain, unki soch waisi hogi, par sach ke raastein pe laakhon log chalte hai, pura samajh chalta hain,” he added.
Also starring Anupriya Goenka, Adhyayan Suman, Tridha Chaudhary, Aaditi Pohankar, and Darshan Kumar, Aashram 3 is currently streaming on MX Player.
