We the Indians know that our doctors, nurses, and other medical staff are risking their lives to save others, it’s not that only Indian doctors but also in other countries, the medical staff is working to destroy the pandemic effect of COVID-19. They work around the clock to ensure that patients are safe, clean, and well-treated. They also manage to remain calm under COVID – 19’s pressure and stress.

We should remember them as Indians and thank them for all this and much more. Our very own Sangeeta Kapure, known for her role in the television series,’ Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke’ has proven humane by praising their efforts and thanking all the doctors, nurses and other humble people who do their bit by taking care of the patients and their families affected. She also reminds us of PM Modi’s Sunday-the Janta curfew regulations from 7 am-9 pm and is fully in support of clapping hands on the balcony at 5 pm for all the heroes who are helping us stay safe and she has said she too will clap her hands for such a good cause. The coronavirus is a surface that can spread by touch and contact, so everyone should stay indoors, work from home if possible, and wash their hands with a high alcohol content sanitizer for at least 20secs. Not only should we help ourselves to avoid exposure to COVID- 19, but we should also help others.

So, with this little reminder from Sangeeta, let’s hope everyone will observe the curfew and show their support for our unheard of medical heroes.

In an attempt to step up its fight against the deadly Coronavirus, the Indian Railways agreed to shut down Mumbai’s lifeline— local trains— at midnight on 22 March for the next eight days. However, goods trains will be allowed to operate as usual to ensure the provision of essential services.

An official notification from the Indian Railways said, “In continuation of the measures taken in the wake of COVID-19, it has been decided that all passenger train services on Indian Railways, including premium trains, mail/express trains, passenger trains, suburban trains, Kolkata Metro rail, Konkan Railway, etc shall be canceled till midnight of March 31.” This includes the suburban network of Mumbai as well.

In addition, the notification notes that trains which had already begun their journey before 4 am 22 March will be permitted to reach their destinations.

Reasonable provisions will be made for passengers during travel and at their destinations as well. It also noted that the movement of goods trains will continue to ensure the delivery of critical services across the country.

In addition, for the convenience of travelers, the full refund of tickets for all canceled trains may be given until 21 June 2020. Adequate arrangements should be made to promote the hassle-free refund of passengers affected by train cancellations.

This is the first time in the history of Indian Railways that suburban local trains have been shut down completely for eight days. According to the Railway archives, “Earlier instances of closure and limitations include the 1896 plague in Bombay, the 1944 Bombay Dock Explosion, the 1974 railway strike and terror, and bomb attacks and monsoon interruptions. But never has the Railways been completely down. During the 1896 plaque and 1944 dock explosion, a similar exodus had happened.”

A world stalked by an eerie silence instantly came alive at 5 p.m. The sounds of clapping and tapping utensils rang out of residential neighborhoods, houses, and high-rise, enhancing the gloomy mood of Sunday.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeals, people across the country came out of their homes and balconies, clapping, beating utensils and even ringing bells as a show of solidarity with health officials and emergency workers who have operated tirelessly in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Earlier, PM Modi rang a reminder to citizens. “Do remember, 5 PM this evening for 5 minutes… Be on your terraces, balconies or windows to express gratitude to all those who are working 24/7 so that our nation becomes free from COVID-19. #JantaCurfew,” he tweeted.

The Indians, who avoided venturing out — as Modi demanded in a TV address on Thursday— were fast to turn to social media. Videos and photographs of people, including kids, clapping and clapping utensils on their balconies and terraces began making rounds. So much so that #5baje5minute and #claps became trending topics on Twitter.
