Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, often known as Sunny questions the decision of appointing Virat Kohli as the captain of the Indian men’s cricket team in all the three formats without any formal meeting. The former Indian skipper feels that there should have been a formal meeting to re-appoint Kohli.
Gavaskar said, “That they selected the team for West Indies without first having a meeting to select the captain brings up the question of whether Virat Kohli is the captain of the team at his or the selection committee’s pleasure”.
“To the best of our knowledge, his (Kohli’s) appointment was till the World Cup. After that, it was incumbent on the selectors to meet even if it was for five minutes for his reappointment,” he added.

Supreme court-appointed Committee of Administration (COA) has stated that they would not review the performance but the managers will report to them.
Sunil Gavaskar went on questioning why Kohli is getting his choice of the team. “Speaking of lame ducks, the Indian selection committee appears to be one. After the reappointment, he (Captain) gets invited to the meeting for his views on selecting the players for the team. By bypassing the procedure, the message that goes out is that while the players like Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik get dropped after below expectation performance, the captain continues despite much below par expectations where the team did not even reach the finals,” Gavaskar said.
BCCI has been vocal about it stating the splitting of the captaincy could be a way forward for the Indian team as they are currently looking to plan for the 2023 World Cup.

Here’s why MS Dhoni doesn’t want Chennai Super Kings To Retain Him in IPL 2021 Auctions

When Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s news broke out in the 2012 Indian Premier League Auction telling Chennai Super Kings not to retain him, it seemed rather shocking and made no sense anywhere. Why would he want to move away from one of the Indian T20 league’s most successful teams, particularly when he made it clear that he’s going to play in the upcoming season? Nevertheless, Dhoni has given this step a fair bit of thought to the wise and compassionate mind that the former Indian skipper has not misled him and believe it or not.

He also told them to use the ‘ Right to Match ‘ card when the wicket-keeper batsman urged CSK to let his name go to the auction table.

What’s the point of all this?

If Chennai wants not to retain Dhoni and use their ‘ Right to Match ‘ card on him, it would provide them with a fair amount of opportunity to save a lot of money and encourage them to bid for more talented players during the auction.

According to the report, a CSK source said: “There will be a big auction before the 2021 IPL and Dhoni has already told us that he will play in the tournament. So there’s no question of his retirement from the T20 version anytime soon. He wants to go back to the auction pool for the big auction that will take place ahead of the 2021 season. That will give CSK the option of using the Right-to-Match card to pick him, maybe for a lower price.

“Being the captain he is, Dhoni is ready to sacrifice money for CSK because we know what Dhoni means to us. We may not let him go back to the auction pool.”

So what’s the ‘ right to match ‘ card?

During the auction, an IPL franchise is allowed to retain up to three players. The ‘ right to play ‘ allows them to ‘ price-match ‘ two other cricketers in the middle of the bidding war and has an advantage over the other side. The only downside is that the ‘ right to match ‘ only extends to players who during the previous season were a part of that particular team.

While this move could result in Dhoni losing some extra money in 2021, it will help the franchise create a better roster around him, creating a better chance to win the title. The thought not only shows MS Dhoni’s brilliance but also emphasizes his willingness to win.
