Daughter to filmmaker Ram Mukerji, Rani shared that after her birth when the nurse had taken her for a change, she mistakenly exchanged her and another baby. It was her mother, Krishna Mukerji, who recognised that the babies were swapped due to Rani’s light-coloured eyes.
The Bunty Aur Babli actress shared, “It so happened I think when babies are born they have been given something… tags. But apparently, the nurse had taken me to do some change and then got me back and when she got back the baby to my mom, my mom was talking to one of my uncles. So they were chatting and my mother saw the baby and said ‘Oh my god! this is not my baby. My daughter has brown eyes. Go and search for my child.’”
She further went on to added that her uncle, who was present during that incident, and the nurse tried to tell her mother that is was her itself. “This is not my baby and the nurse said, ‘No no this is your baby’ and my uncle was like how can it not be your baby, it must be your baby, just look at it carefully all babies look alike when they are born,” she added.
Rani explained that her mother visited all the rooms to search for Rani and found her “in one Sardarji’s room who already had some six daughters and this was the seventh one.” To this day, her mother jokes about the incident.
“When my mother started searching, there was a Punjabi family who had a daughter for the eighth time. I was there. Even now they joke that ‘You are actually a Punjabi. My mistake you ended up in our family’,” she concluded.
